With the success of “Pompeii” (a track they will be known best for), UK based rock band released their highly anticipated debut full length album entitled Bad Blood. Like it’s cover art, Bad Blood has a cinematic feel to it. Explosive drum beats and soaring vocals combined with a layered synth and bass create instantly catchy tunes. Songs like “These Streets” is an example of all these elements of Bastille coming to work, with it’s harmonizing vocals and tribal drum beats flowing against a electronic backdrop. At times, Bad Blood incorporates orchestrated elements as well. Tracks like “Oblivion” bring in strings and piano to further the bands epic, cinematic vibe. Overall, a solid effort from an up and coming band, which everyone should be on the look out for in the future. No planned American tour dates (Bad Blood has not been released into the US just yet either), but you could bet they will make their way over here soon (hopefully sooner).

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back with the brand new face melter, “Head On/Pill.” “Head On/Pill” is a 16 minute journey broken up between two psychedelic fueled passages. The track starts off slow and spaced out before mutating into an all out manic monster for the rest of the song. If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to travel through wormholes, this is your best bet. King Gizzard have showcased a lot of versatility in their songwriting, where their last album, Eyes Like The Sky was basically the soundtrack to a spaghetti western film. If “Head On/Pill” is any indication of things to come, then I’m all on board.

Their third album Float Along – Fill Your Lungs, which includes “Head On/Pill,” is set to release sometime later this year.

The always hard working Arctic Monkeys just released a new single today called “Do I Wanna Know?” Most likely to be released on an album later this year. “Do I Wanna Know?” takes cues from desert rock and psychedelic rock, sounds the band have previously experimented with in the past, but now quite seem comfortable with. The video reflects such sound with warping animated images and oscillation lines.

Yeezus is officially among us, and today a American Psycho-inspired short film surfaced on Kanye West’s website. In the clip, Scott Disick plays the role of Patrick Bateman (originally played by Christian Bale) with Jonathan Cheban playing his co-worker Paul (Jared Leto’s character). The clip re-creates the infamous Huey Lewis and The News scene, so expect a bloody ending (sorry for the spoilers if you never seen American Psycho!). It looks like Jonathan won’t be making it to the Dorsia now.

In the wake of Yeezus leaking, Jay-Z stepped out from the fog to announce his new full length album Magna Carta Holy Grail. During game 5 of the NBA finals, Jay-z released a commercial which confirms the album’s July 4th release and album title. Magna Carta Holy Grail is set to include collaborations from Pharrell, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and Rick Rubin (who just worked with Kanye West on Yeezus).

Interestingly enough, the album will drop via a Samsung mobile app, which will be available on Google Play June 24th. No word on other release outlets just yet. Check out the commercial below.

With only a matter of only days before it’s official release, the seamingly unleaked and nearly unheard Yeezus finally leaked to the internet. Within hours the internet blew up with comments and streams of the album readily become available only (for now). This is surprising seeing as how Kanye West is known for heavily guarding his releases from leaks (take Watch The Throne, for example, which didn’t leak till after it’s official iTunes release).

What’s the verdict? Pretty impressive. What less could you have to expect from Ye? After releasing the critically acclaimed “My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy,” the follow up Yeezus easily stacks up lives up to it’s expectations. Kanye West experiments with a more minimal sound taking influence from the electronic scene in his native Chicago. At last minute, Kanye West enlisted Rick Rubin to help on production and also served as an executive producer. Interestingly enough, no official single has ever been released from the album, leaving much questions about the content about the album before it’s leak. Rick Rubin explained in an interview that no single was ever released, because Kanye believes the album should be listened to as one full body of work instead of diluting it with single releases. Whatever works for you, Kanye. We love it.

In what seems like an unlikely pairing, UK psychedelic band, TOY and songstress Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes came together on the track “The Bride.” The tracks is the 3rd session in a series for Speedy Wunderground, where each month a new artist will perform in their studio.

According to the press release, “The Bride” is a ” re-working of Iranian song “Aroos Khanom” by Amir Rassaie from the record “Funk, Psychedelia and Pop from the Iranian Pre-Revolution Generation.” After Natasha dropped into the studio and heard TOY’s re-work, she fell in love and re-worked the lyrics after they were translated into English. The end result is something quite interesting, and I would be so up for a collab album from both artists. A 60s middle eastern psychedelic inspired album, anyone?

On July 1st, the track will be available as a limited edition of 250 7” and features a dub version of the track, ‘Here Comes Dub Bride’ on the B-Side. Check out the track below.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra recently appeared on BBC’s radio program 6Music With Marc Riley, where the band performed a live cover of Otis Redding’s classic “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” UMO’s take on it is nearly faithful to the original, with Ruben’s bluesy vocals and just enough of UMO’s psych sound to mix it up a bit. Smith Westerns just posted “Idol,” a new track off their upcoming album Soft Will. “Idol” is the third track they shared off of that album following “Varsity” and “3AM Spiritual.” “Idol” sounds like it could have easily been ripped from a John Hughes soundtrack.

Soft Will is set to drop June 25 via Mom + Pop in the U.S. and June 24 via Co-Op in Europe.
