98 Degrees Premiere ‘Girls Night Out’

98 degrees, girls night out
98 Degrees’ new album, 2.0, isn’t out until May 7, but the man-band is letting us listen to their first single, “Girls Night Out” now!  The song title sounds a bit like it should be sung by a girl group, but I digress…

I have to start out by saying that as soon as I clicked play, I was immediately reminded of Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” which inevitably also made me think of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.”  “Girls Night Out” is a much smoother and laid-back song than the two #1 singles, but I couldn’t help wondering how strategic this new sound is.

The members of 98 Degrees still have pleasant voices that create soothing harmonies, sharp attire, and minds set on women.  Lots of women.  In the chorus of “Girls Night Out,” they sing about how there are “so many women” and how “each one is sexy” in whatever “place” they’re in.  Okay, it’s nice to appreciate a woman’s beauty.  Then they sing about how they want “that girl, and that girl, and that girl” and we wonder if it’s appreciation or just straight-up desperation.  The song is certainly nothing to plug your ears to, but I’m not sure if it will be the one to propel them back to the top.

Listen below and let us know what you think!
