Halestorm is back with a brand new EP of all covers, and with the exception of the annoying title toggle text it’s a fantastic display of musicianship. Frontwoman Lzzy Hale shows off her incredible set of pipes on classics like Judas Priest’s “Dissident Aggressor,” AC/DC’s “Shoot To Thrill,” and Pat Benetar’s “Hell Is For Children,” while the band impresses with their skills and tight timing. The album also covers songs that you DEFINITELY would not expect to work in a rock format, such as Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” Perhaps the most impressive cover is the last song on the EP, Marilyn Manson’s “1996.” While I may be a bit biased, no one can deny the power behind growled out lyrics and roaring guitars. And, let’s face it: if you can cover the greats, you really can do no wrong. I tip my hat to you, Halestorm, you’ve done it again!

Gather round, kiddies, Cooper’s Class of Character is now in session!

The original Prince of Gore, Alice Cooper, has a couple things to say to his tour co-headliner, Marilyn Manson, and they sure are some great points of advice! Cooper explained:

“We have a lot in common in the fact that we both play characters. We both created a couple of monster characters. What we  talked about on my show was, how do you deal with that character against your real life? It’s so overpowering – does it ever take over? I’ve had a lot more time to work with Alice, so I know when to be Alice and when not to be Alice. I told him it’s very hard to maintain a character 24 hours a day, and there may come a time when you have to divorce yourself from the character just so you’ll like the character.”

He remembers his early days in the industry:

“I thought I had to be that character all the time – and it nearly killed me. I’m trying to drink with Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix and those guys, and they’re professionals, and I’m like 18 years old. That’s when I realised I have to allow myself to be me. Then I really appreciate playing the character of Alice. I don’t know how long you can maintain one character 24 hours a day without having some kind of a break. That’s just something you have to learn. I didn’t know my limitations until I got to the point where I got to a near-death experience and then I started going, ‘Now I know where Alice ends and I begin.’”

Following his reminiscing, Cooper explains how impressed he was after meeting Manson:

“He’s very smart; he’s got good insight. We and Rob Zombie are three of the people that created characters we had to deal with, our bigger-than-life mythological character. And me being that character for 40 years gave me a little more insight into it. I might handle it differently than they do, but I can at least show them where the thin ice is.”

Amazing words from a true legend. Rock on!

Marilyn Manson, AKA Mr. SpaceJam (fine, not really,) has recorded a song with Gucci Mane.

No, I’m not messing with you, the title of the as-of-now unreleased track is “Fancy Bitch,” (which is obviously talking about yours truly,) and is promised to be “the dopest record in the world.”  Gucci said in a recent interview:

“That’s my boy man. We got the dopest record in the world, me and Marilyn. Me and him got one of the craziest records ever made. We made it whatever day Spring Breakers came out in Cali. He came to the sneak premiere, and after we did the red carpet and watched the movie, me and him went to the studio and made us a record. That’s the day that we met and began being friends. He’s cool as hell, I fuck with him hard. He ain’t the averagest white boy. He got swag. Me and him together, he don’t get on my nerves. I can stomach being around him. He cool.”

This…this is a friendship that dreams are made of. My life is complete. That is all.

Iggy and the Stooges are back and better than ever in their just-released new album, “Ready To Die!”  The band’s first album since 2007’s “The Weirdness,” The Stooges gave everyone exactly what they didn’t know they needed, on “Ready To Die” – good, hard, fast, old fashioned rock and roll.  “Ready To Die” is a clear example of the dirty, in-your-face sound that Iggy Pop made a name for himself with, proving that he is, indeed, still a complete badass at 66 years old.

Iggy and the Stooges kick out the jams right from the albums’ first aggressive track, “Burn,” which is reminiscent of 1973’s “Raw Power,” partially thanks to the return of guitarist James Williamson, who took over after the unexpected death of Ron Asheton in 2009.  The riff-tastic intro will have you chomping at the bit to hear Iggy’s signature gravelly vocals, and he does not disappoint, with “Burn” transitioning seamlessly into “Sex And Money,” a surf-music sounding party track that begs to be blasted from a convertible while cruising down the California coast.

After grooving to “Sex And Money,” Iggy takes a second to talk about his career choice on one of my personal favorite tracks, “Job,” which starts out with him complaining: “I got a job, I got a job, I got a job but it don’t pay shit / I got a job, I got a job, I got a job and I’m sick of it.”  Now, I’ll admit that at first, I didn’t think there was too much to this song, but after further listening, I was incredibly impressed with how Iggy transitioned from talking about simply hating his job, to explaining how he has trouble connecting with his audience, but that “The other crowd has got no balls / the money crowd stood at the walls / the fashion crowd stares back at them / but I only care about who I am.”  It’s an unexpectedly deep track from one of the inventors of hard-hitting punk rock.

Other noteworthy tracks off the record are the mexicali-blues-inspired “Unfriendly World,” which highlights Iggy’s vocals perfectly, making him sound like a glorious mixture of ZZ Top with a hint of Marilyn Manson, along with the title track, “Ready To Die” which manages to encompass all of the Stooges separate strengths in one fantastic hard-hitting anthem.

Overall, “Ready To Die” is a truly stunning example of some of the Stooges best work yet, and I HIGHLY recommend it to any and all rock ‘n’ roll lovers everywhere.  Rock on, Iggy!

It’s a fact of life that Yves Saint Laurent knows rock stars.  In May of 1971, he designed the outfits of both Mick and Bianca Jagger for their St. Tropez wedding, and has dressed countless rock legends since then, including Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, David Bowie, The Kills, Franz Ferdinand, and many, many more.  With that being said, it simply makes sense that YSL would snatch up some of the biggest names in the industry to star in his new Rock Music photo series, and boy, did he outdo himself! The series stars my one true love Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, and Ariel Pink and was shot by the lovely and talented Hedi Slimane, who manages to completely capture the signature YSL look while still portraying the star’s individual personalities.

Courtney Love is seen in a pinstripe suit, ruffled shirt, beauty queen crown (reminiscent of Hole’s “Live Through This” album cover,) and draped dress pining over her guitar managing to completely embody the soul of all things grunge chic while showing off her “let it bleed” arm tattoo.  Manson is ever the gothic rocker with his beautiful pale face and heavy makeup, all while in a black button-up under the label’s signature 101 biker jacket. The jacket also appears on California experimental rocker Ariel Pink, who lightens up the series with a hint of humor all while still managing to appear as the angsty legend that he is.  The series is topped off by Kim Gordon, who channels the sound of Sonic Youth with a dazed but defiant look in her eyes while modeling multiple looks such as a menswear jacket and lace dress, that explore both her hard-edge and feminine style.

The stunning series is promised to go down in history as a near-perfect portrait of fashion and music combined, so make sure to check out the full set of photographs below!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, KING BOWIE HAS AN ANNOUNCEMENT!

Do I have everyone’s attention? SUPER.

The one and only king of glam, David Bowie has just released the music video for the second single off his first album in over ten years, “The Next Day!”  The incredible video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” features Oscar winner Tilda Swinton, offers a look into the divide between normal and celebrity in the 21st century.  What starts off as a relatively tame – if not a little trippy – everyday look at the life of Bowie and Swinton (who play husband and wife,) quickly spirals into insanity with the help of androgynous models Andrej Pejic, Saskia De Brauw, and Iselin Steiro (who plays a young Bowie.)  The psychedelic look is completed with gravity-defying camera angles and sped-up conversations courtesy of superstar director Floria Sigismondi, who has made a name for herself by directing two of Bowie’s former videos, working with greats such as Marilyn Manson and The White Stripes, and for her first feature length film, “The Runaways.”

Overall, the video is a stunning piece of cinematic beauty that is guaranteed to take you back to the days where odd, understated sophistication was the name of the game, and Bowie ruled with his tastefully balanced poetic and edgy lyrics.  Make sure to take a look below and remember to mark your calendars for March 12th, when the full album is released in the United States.

YESSSSSSS!

Last night at The Grammys, hard rock newcomers (and personal favorites of yours truly,) took home their first win for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for their incredible song, “Love Bites (But So Do I.)” The group were the obvious underdogs in a category full of legends such as Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Megadeth, Lamb Of God, and Anthrax, but surprisingly pulled through in the end, winning the award during the show’s pre-telecast ceremony.

When accepting their award, drummer Arejay Hale took to the podium to say:

“Oh Christ, completely did not expect this! Thanks to our parents for turning us into great music. Most parents want their kids to be doctors and lawyers and our parents encouraged us to join the circus.” 

Lzzy Hale, lead singer and sister of Arejay, then stepped up and gave a special thanks to Iron Maiden and Lamb Of God for being a huge inspiration to her, and dedicated the Grammy to all the “Halestorm Freaks,” gleefully exclaiming:

“Here’s to us!”

Here’s to you, indeed, Halestorm, and here’s to hoping that this Grammy is one of many in the future.  Congratulations!

You know what’s the worst?  When someone who you’ve never even met claims that you’re engaged, stalking her, a Nazi, AND that you killed her cats.

Oh…that’s never happened to you? Huh, go figure.

Unfortunately, all of that and more happened to my husband Marilyn Manson this month, and he has finally had enough! The legendary shock rocker has filed a lawsuit against Seraphim Ward (real name Yolanda Tharpe,) for spreading false stories about him to the press.  These false stories included claims that Ward was engaged to Manson, later stating that the engagement was broken off because he “did not want to be seen with [African American] women like her.”  She furthered the shocking accusations by saying that Manson was stalking her, “pro-Nazi,” and was somehow responsible for the deaths of her two cats.

Earlier this month, he simply reached out via his lawyer to demand a public apology, but when that didn’t happen, the Antichrist Superstar officially filed a lawsuit seeking $50,000 for “five cases of defamation, misappropriation of common law right of publicity, unlawful use of Manson’s name for commercial advantage, and intentional negligent infliction of emotional distress.”

If you ask me, this is one of those cases that Ward might just want to cut her losses and go home.  But, since that obviously is not the road she has chosen to take, she should prepare herself for a “mOBSCENE,” because this has the potential to get messy.

Go get em’, Manson!
