Stockholm four-piece Crucified Barbara has just released their new video for their in-your-face smash, “To Kill A Man,” and the timing could NOT have been more perfect. The aggressive, take-no-prisoners video comes in the wake of endless debate concerning women’s safety and overall rights (triggered by the recent Isla Vista mass shooting), and compliments the kickass track to perfection. The video switches between performance shots of the band, and newspaper clippings of coverage of violence against women. A group statement concerning the song, which is set to appear in the upcoming film “In The Red,” reads:

“We, and many of us, feel a huge impotence and rage when we hear and read about men who systematically abuse and rape women. This type of crime is something that happens every day, everywhere. From anger, we create music. Heavy influences and harsh riffs became the song To Kill a Man, a really heavy song in every sense.”

When asked about the video, they replied:

“One fifth of all the world’s women have been raped or attempted rape in their lifetime. The dark statistics became the basis for the song ‘To Kill A Man’ and our most important of the video. The production company 11frames has captured our vision perfectly and we are proud that we take the opportunity lifting heavy topics such as violence and sexism with a really heavy hard rock video.”

GUESS WHAT?! The video of Metallica’s surprise “Kill ‘Em All” set at the Orion Festival has just been released!

I know. I. KNOW.

The set was done on the first day of the legendary Detroit festival, and came as a massive surprise for all concertgoers when they were told that a mysterious band named “Dehaan” was going to play at 4:30 on a small side stage.  Dehaan’s banner had the band’s name crossed out in red spray paint, with the classic Metallica phrase, “Metal Up Your Ass” written over it.  At 4:30 on the dot, Metallica stormed the stage and launched into a surprise set of their first album, “Kill ‘Em All,” successfully making every person in attendance’s day.  For those of us not lucky enough to see the now-notorious performance, the band has put up the full set for everyone to experience the full power of the thrash metal Gods, and let me tell you – you WILL head bang.

Hard.

PS – Rob Trujillo isn’t wearing shorts, so it’s admittedly a little weird…but other than that, pretty damn amazing.

QUICK! GIRLS TO THE FRONT!

The original riot grrrl, Kathleen Hanna, (of Bikini Kill & Le Tigre,) is back and better than ever with her newest group, The Julie Ruin!  Originally started as a solo project back in 1997 before expanding to a full-band effort in 2010, and have just announced that come September 3rd they will release their debut album, “Run Fast!”

On a side note, September 3rd is yours truly’s birthday. I’m flattered, Kathleen, this is literally the best present ever.

In addition to Kathleen Hanna, The Julie Ruin consists of former Bikini Kill bandmate Kathi Wilcox (bass), Kiki & Herb member Kenny Mellman (keyboards), Carmine Covelli (drums), and Sara Landeau (guitar).

“Run Fast” will feature the already-released single, “Girls Like Us,” along with a brand-spankin’-new track, “Oh Come On,” which you can stream below.  The album is sure to be filled with inspiring Riot Grrrl anthems, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what Hanna and the gang has in store for us!

Ocean Avenue Acoustic is set to come out August 13.  I know, that seems “way away,” but at least it’s not “one year, six months” away!  OKAY, I’ll stop.  The stripped down album will be released in celebration of Ocean Avenue‘s ten year anniversary (yes, we’re old).  Here is the full artwork:

The trailer features a handful of fans talking about Ocean Avenue and Yellowcard.  They speak about how they were introduced to the band, how their music has affected them, and what it means to them.  There is also an acoustic version of the title track playing, which still features drums and violin along with the guitar.

Metallica have released both the trailer and poster for their new 3D movie, “Through The Never,” and, as expected, it looks completely insane!  The film, which has been described as “The Wall meets Metallica,” is written and directed by Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and tells the story of a band crew member (played by Dane DeHaan,) whose life is changed while he is on a mission during Metallica’s live set.  Drummer Lars Ulrich explains:

“Concert films have a tendency to be filmed from the outside looking [at the band]. We felt it would be much more interesting if we filmed from the inside looking out. We always play 360, so the primary concert element is kind of up on stage filming out.”

The movie is set to be released in IMAX theaters across the US for the week of September 27th, before expanding to additional screens starting October 4th.  You can check out the explosive trailer below!

The band and their new singer performed a set at the KROQ Weenie Roast over the weekend, and even performed a brand new song, “Out of Time.”  On their website, the members of Stone Temple Pilots revealed their excitement about having Bennington on the team.  Dean DeLeo stated:

Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time.  We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together.  We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.

You hear that, LP fans?  Bennington is a multi-tasker, if you didn’t already know from his acting, so you won’t have to worry about STP taking up all of his time.  He also made a statement about how he’s gone from fan to frontman:

I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me.  When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance.  The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.

Pop Evil have released a video for the lead single, “Trenches” off their album “Onyx,” and it could not have made more of a statement.  The video follows a woman who is struggling with both domestic violence and a nasty drug habit thanks to her abusive junkie boyfriend, and how she finds the strength within herself to take control of her life.  We see the fight while listening to powerful snarled-out lyrics like:

“I’ve waited all my life to get out of the trenches
I’m ready to fight for what I believe you can steal from me
I won’t take this
Gonna fill these trenches and stand up
Wake up, I won’t give up
Cause here I come, here I come, yeah!”

By the end of the song, anyone with a heart will not only have chills, but even more respect for the talented men in Pop Evil.  It takes a great band to gracefully tackle such sensitive issues, but Evil absolutely nails it, and I can’t say enough good things about both the video and the band.  You can check out “Trenches” below.

Queens of the Stone Age are on a roll with the new video clips this month, and next up is the video for “If I Had A Tail.” The video features the same creepy, dark art courtesy of Boneface and animation from Liam Braizer. In a very Deathproof-esque (with what seems like a Kurt Russell bobble head on the dash) clip, the video features a masked assailant (no spoilers), who goes on a bit of a rampage in their vintage muscle car.

“If I Had A Tail” is a cut off of QOTSA’s upcoming album …Like Clockwork, which is set to drop June 4th via their new label home Matador.
