Bowling for Soup may not have the longevity as other bands but they sure have the passion with their fan funded new album “Lunch. Drunk. Love.” set to be released on September 10th. Bowling for Soup was around since the 90s but didn’t start getting recognition until 2002. With a few hits here and there they hit it big with their most well known song “1985” which went platinum. After that Bowling For Soup struggled staying as relevant and didn’t have much success following that brief period. Here they are with their 14th album that was completely fan funded. The fans were also allowed to here all the songs during the bands writing process as well as choose the title of the album. The very fan heavy band looks to make a comeback with this new album but mainly they are looking to please their fans with new music.

English singer-songwriter Labrinth looks to crossover to the US with his new EP titled “Beneath Your Beautiful” that was released on August 27th. Normally a producer, Labrinth began to break out as a solo act in 2010 with the release of his successful album in 2012 in the UK. He has had much success in the UK so far and with the crossover hit “Beneath Your Beautiful” with Emeli Sande, Labrinth looks to use that momentum with the release of his new EP, his first release in the US. Labrinth mixes Pop, R&B, Electronic and lots of drums and guitars on this release and the 6 song EP does a great job at showing what he has to offer.

The biggest and crossover title track “Beneath Your Beautiful” featuring Emeli Sande is the best track off this EP. It is very powerful song and the vocals between the two sound extremely well. This song just recently began getting steam in the US and has already gone Platinum in the UK so I can only see it going up now.

Another top track off the EP is “Treatment” a rock and dance sounding track that sound great along with Labrinth’s vocals. Tinie Tempah lends a hand on another top track off the EP titled “Earthquake”. It has a crazy beat to it that has some of a urban/dance feel to it. It’s very EDM with lots of drum and bass beats and sounds very different from the power ballad “Beneath Your Beautiful”

Overall Labrinth looks to have a promising career ahead of his because not only does he have a wonderful voice but he is also very versatile. Only on this 6 song EP you here drums, guitars, electronic beats and piano ballads. He goes from pouring his soul out on ballad “Beneath Your Beautiful” to making people dance with his big song “Earthquake” with Tinie Tempah. Besides the ones I mentioned their are a couple other good songs off this EP and I could see Labrinth continuing his success and look forward to hearing more of him.

John Legend has been around for almost 10 years now and he has sure cemented himself into the music industry. With his soulful vocals and his great songwriting he looks to put it all together for his fourth studio album “Love In The Future” set to be released on September 3rd. Legend has won many Grammy’s and has had multiple Platinum selling albums and he looks to continue that success. His last album was so far his least successful album and now he looks to rebound from that with his new album “Love In The Future”.

His first single “Who Do We Think We Are” featuring Rick Ross is a slow jam packed R&B song. Legend’s vocals excel very well here but all together the song is somewhat lackluster. It is a solid effort but not one that should have been a first single. His second single “Made To Love” is a guitar and drum driven track that works well here. It’s is a pretty good song that although sounds different from Legend’s normal work, it works very well for him.

His third single “All Of Me” is a great song stripped down to only a piano and Legend’s great voice. Lyrically and vocally this is top notch and it’s no surprise coming from John Legend himself. This is so far the top track off the album and he sounds great here.

Overall “Love In The Future” looks to be a good album coming from the reliant John Legend. You can always count on Legend to release a straight up R&B record and that’s exactly what he is doing here. It should be a good to great release something that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Natalia Kills looks to breakthrough with her new album “Trouble” set to be released on September 3rd. Being associated to the likes of will.i.am and LMFAO in the past has given Kills an edge but she has yet to capitalize and come out with a big hit. Natalia Kills debut album “Perfectionist” featured good tracks and had minor success but weren’t as successful as many had hoped.

Her first single “Problem” is a big track that has a huge guitar riff all over it. It is a dance track with rock influences with many sounds added to it such as sirens and clapping. This song is perfect for commercial spots and TV spots and already has gotten exposure from being on the Shoedazzle commercials. It’s a good song but so far hasn’t done too well.

Her second single “Saturday Night” slows things down a bit in a midtempo track with big drums. This so far is my favorite track off the album mainly because Natalia Kills has mostly released big dance tracks and here she changes things up and it works out great. It is a pretty good song but again hasn’t amounted to anything.

Overall Natalia Kills so far seems to be struggling to get that one song that finally pops. She has good songs but not one that is so incredible that it blows up. Kills seems to have most of the tools needed to make it, I just think she needs that one special song that will put her over the top and make a big splash on the radio. Other than that so far “Trouble” looks to be a good release with some decent tracks already leaking. She’s going to need a big song to make up for her first few singles struggling but at the end of the day this album should be a good listen.

Winner of Season 7 of the X Factor UK, Matt Cardle had quite a successful career going for him having a platinum selling a debut album as well as multiple hit songs. After leaving Sony, Cardle’s momentum seemed to cool off a bit but here he is back with a new song titled “Loving You” set to be released on August 20th featuring Melanie C of one of the most successful groups ever the Spice Girls. Matt Cardle and Melanie C both sound great together in this duet and this could be the song that puts both of them right back on the map.

An incredible hook, a controversial intimate music video, and great vocals all make up the elements to a great and possible hit song. The only complaint I would have it that both verses should have been different because it is just the same lyrics repeated but other than that it is a very good song all around. With all the buzz going around about Melanie C and Matt Cardle and rumors of them possibly being together, “Loving You” is getting plenty of attention already.  Look out for a possible comeback from former Sport Spice, Melanie C and X Factor winner Matt Cardle.

Janelle Monae looks to come out big with her new album on September 10th titled “The Electric Lady” her follow up to her debut album “The ArchAndroid”. Her funky soulful sound brings a different sound and a breath of fresh air to pop music. Her first album didn’t lead her to much success but in 2011 she was a guest feature on fun.’s huge hit song “We Are Young” and now Janelle Monae looks to use that momentum with her own music. With huge guest features such as Erykah Badu, Miguel and Prince, Janelle Monae has all the tools for a successful album but so far the singles havn’t really done so well.

The first single “Q.U.E.E.N” featuring Erykah Badu is an uptempo guitar driven dance track. It is catchy and does well as a single but there isn’t really anything all too special about this track. The concept of the song is a great concept but the song although catchy is a bit underwhelming. Her second single “Dance Apocalyptic” is an old school sound that works well for what it is.

Completely changing the sound from her last two singles her third single “Primetime” featuring Miguel is a slow R&B love song. Both Monae’s and Miguel’s vocals sound great here and this may be her best offering yet. If she ever had a chance of having a big hit this would be it especially with such a big guest feature.

Overall, Janelle Monae as a lot of work cut out for her. With all these great guest features, she really is getting pushed hard and so far has underperformed with her singles. Monae has a lot to live up to with her last album underperforming and now getting another shot with huge names like Miguel and Prince. So far the album hasn’t really lived up to the expectations unfortunately but this album should be a bit of an improvement from her last album.

Young female newcomer, Ariana Grande’s new album “Yours Truly” is setting up for a big release on September 3rd. With a platinum selling song already down, Grande’s stock just continues to rise as the album’s release gets closer and she continues to release more songs. Nickelodeon star has done a great job of keeping her Nick show and her music two separate entities since she continues to show off her more mature side on the album. With many comparisons to her main influence Mariah Carey, Grande looks to have R&B 90’s feel to her music and so far she is doing just that.

Her first single “The Way” featuring Mac Miller went platinum and was a huge debut single for the new artist. In one of the biggest surprises of the year, Ariana Grande had one of the biggest first week sales of the year only behind Justin Timberlake. The single was a big success and showed her huge vocal range very well.

Her second single “Baby I” wasn’t as successful but still was another top 40 hit and many people have said she sounds very reminiscent to Mariah Carey on this song.

Grande has also released promo singles “Right There” featuring Big Sean and a huge power ballad titled “Almost Is Never Enough” featuring The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes.

Overall this album so far looks to be huge for Ariana Grande. With big features and already hit songs, this album looks like it could sell very well as her debut album. At only 20 years old and only her debut album, Grande only has room to grow and I suspect we will be hearing a lot of Ariana Grande for years to come as she is one of the best female vocalist today.

Big Sean is prepping to release his new album “Hall Of Fame” on August 27th. “Hall Of Fame” is a follow up to his highly successful album “Finally Famous” which featured hits such as “Dance (A$$)” with Nicki Minaj and “My Last” with Chris Brown. Big Sean looks to continue his success with his new album with huge features all over the place such as Lil Wayne, Nas, Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj and Miguel.

So far the first few singles haven’t garnered the same success as his last album and have only been moderate hits. The first three singles “Guap”, “Switch Up”, and “Beware” to me doesn’t seem like logical choices for the first singles mainly because there was nothing really special about these tracks. The fourth single “Fire” is so far the best track released off the album. Big Sean takes a more serious approach on this single rapping about his life and making it through the “Fire”. It’s not your typical club track and that’s what makes it that much better. Miley Cyrus is also in the music video which doesn’t hurt it at all.

Overall Big Sean had big success on his last album so he has a lot to live up to on this album. He doesn’t seem too worried though because he is looking to put out his own music and not following what anyone else wants which is always a good thing for an artist. In an interview he said

“Not going by the label standards. I’m not going by the club standards. This is just what the fuck I want to do. Some people are going to like it. Some people are going to hate it; regardless, I’m just doing me.”

This album looks to be a solid release with many anticipated songs featuring Nicki Minaj, Miguel, Kid Cudi and many more. Here is hoping the rest of the album is better than the first three singles and if it sounds anything like his past hits or “Fire” then this album could do very well for Big Sean.

Avenged Sevenfold return with their new album “Hail To The King” set to be released on August 27th. With Avenged Sevenfold wanting a more blues rock/ classic rock sound, they look to experiment with different sounds with this new album. With many years and multiple hit albums under their belt, they look to cement themselves in the rock music world. Their first single, title track, “Hail To The King” is a decent track but seems somewhat tamed from their previous work. It is not a bad song at all just decent all throughout. Here is hoping the band has many more tricks up their sleeves and I’m sure they do which will lead them to another big selling album.
