Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

Back in 2004, Robin Thicke released his second studio album “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” which ended up going platinum with the help of his hit song “Lost Without You”. Thicke has not come close at all to achieving that feat again but it looks like that may very well change with his new album “Blurred Lines” set to be released on July 30th. With huge names such as T.I, Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar and will.i.am attached to this release, it looks like Robin Thicke could have his biggest selling record yet. He already has a huge hit single “Blurred Lines’ on top of the charts which will be a huge reason as to why the album will sell so well.

Before the release of his single “Blurred Lines”, Robin Thicke was having trouble releasing another hit song after his first “Lost Without You”. He now looks to capitalize on the success of the funky dancy hit song “Blurred Lines” with his second and third single.

His second single “For The Rest Of My Life” is a much more mellowed out single and it is pretty much an ode to being the best man for his wife for the rest of his life. It is an R&B song that lyrically is pretty good but it is a bit of a lackluster follow-up to such a huge first single. Now I’m not saying this song isn’t good at all but to follow up his single “Blurred Lines” with this may have not been the smartest decision.

His third single “Give It 2 U” featuring Kendrick Lamar is a much better follow up to his first single. This song is another dance track with an electronic sound to it that sounds very similar to Justin Timberlake’s futuristic sound. It is a decent song with alright lyrics that could be another hit as well. He could have another hit on his hands with this song but I don’t see it reaching the peaks of his single “Blurred Lines”. Kendrick Lamar also has a great guest verse that just adds more layers to this song.

So far, Robin Thicke’s sixth album “Blurred Lines” looks somewhat promising with one huge track and another solid third single. Thicke has always been more of an R&B singer so it will be interesting to see how well this album is balanced out with dance tracks like “Blurred Lines” and his R&B roots like “Lost Without You”.
