It’s always a challenge to take a long living hit from the last decade or two and remix that song into something that could be just as big. Hailing from London, the progressive house duo, Third Party, most notably associated with Steve Angello and SIZE Records, has finally released one of the most anticipated festival jams in a long time. Third Party has been producing quality releases, but the mystery has always been why there hadn’t been a public release of their remix of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s 2000 single, “Otherside”. For about 2 years now, we’ve been hearing snippets of this song in many different DJ’s festival sets. As soon as you’d hear Anthony Kiedis’s familiar voice with a large-scale festival sound system, you can’t help but sing along… and that goes for everyone. The entire audience joins in – a tough effect to have. The “Otherside” (Third Party Remix) is now officially out, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Swedish dreamboat DJ Avicii has just dropped a stunning new single with soulful crooner Aloe Blacc titled, “Wake Me Up,” and it’s the LAST thing you would expect!  The unusually calm, folk-inspired track has been described as “Nashville Goes EDM,” and is pretty much a perfect example of “something you wouldn’t think would work…but does.” Sounding like a mixture of Mumford & Sons, “Icky Thump” era White Stripes, and Emeli Sande, “Wake Me Up” captures a hard-to-accomplish combination of southern twang with classic, rage-your-face-off EDM beats. Overall, a solid Avicci track to get him back into the scene, and Aloe Blacc is pure brilliance. Turn up the speakers and check it out below!

Well, it looks like Justin Bieber isn’t the ONLY superstar becoming real-life space cadet: Legendary Dutch DJ/Producer Armin van Buuren has just revealed plans to be the first DJ in space! The trance God will, unfortunately, not be on the same flight as the Biebs, but on a mission with 100 other “founder astronauts” through SXC. The official announcement was made on Armin’s official website, reading:

“Space, the big gap, the universe, galaxy, the cosmos. There’s many ways to call it, but getting there still is a privilege. That’s about to change though. Space may seem far away, but it’s getting closer every year. Technology is constantly developing and a project was set up to provide a commercial space line. SXC is the company that’s about to take the next step in space-tourism. And guess what? Armin is invited!

2014 is a year Armin will remember for a long time to go. The number one DJ is one of the 100 ‘Founder Astronauts’ invited for a flight into space. The lucky Founder Astronauts will go through a special program, part of the development of the project. A special training on G-forces and weightlessness is included.  Armin:”For every DJ, it’s a dream to travel 3,5 times faster than their own sound! And then that deafening silence at 100 kilometers high. I can’t wait. I guess a 200 BPM heart rate is likely.”

For those of you who don’t know, Camp Bisco has become one of the East Coast’s premier music festivals since its launch in 1999, specializing in a mix of jam bands, electronic music, hip-hop and many other genres. The festival is hosted by the veteran band, Disco Biscuits, right outside Albany, New York. Camp Bisco is a bit less extravagant than your typical large-scale festival, but that’s just part of the experience. The founders of the festival have finalized and released this years impressive line-up, with notable artists such as Passion Pit, Tommy Trash and Bassnectar. Yes, the festival has becomes electronic-heavy, but if you look real close you can catch some hip-hop and jam band acts here and there. Check out the line-up for yourself; this year’s Camp Bisco’s going to be a wild one!

“Oh, sometimes… I get a good feeling… yeah…” Most of you would recognize this line from one of EDM’s biggest hit in recent times; Levels. Since the success of several single, including the fore-mentioned, Avicii has been one of the most relevant DJ/producers out there. When you see a release from the Swede’s label imprint, Le7els, you know it’s going to gain some good amount of hype.

Ashley Wallbridge, big time British producer, has released his new song “Crush” on Avicii’s Le7els. Ashley is known for his master craft of progressive harmony and sweet melodies, with some trance elements sprinkled in here and there. “Crush” gives us exactly what we were hoping for, with more. The first drop in the song is a little surprising; giving off an acid house feel that club dance floors would go wild for. The rest of the song is what Ashley Wallbridge fans want. Hard-hitting, strong chord progressions that make you wish you were at a festival that very second. Great production. Great tune.

It’s rumored that Dutch producers have some kind of unique intuition when it comes to house and electronic dance music. It seems since the mid-late 00’s, the Netherlands have been had an overbearing grip on the EDM world with countless established veteran and newcomer DJs with several chart-topping hits. One of the few very popular household names that EVERYONE knows by now is none other than Afrojack. Since initial and commercial success, Afrojack started his own label that has taken his last name, Wall Recordings. “If you build it, they will come,” and by this overused quote, Afrojack new that if he built his music beacon, young Dutch talent would inevitably come. And this week we explore D-Wayne.

D-Wayne is yet another Dutch producer, oozing with potential. Some of his earlier singles were released on Spinnin’ Records, Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, and of course, Wall Recordings. Afrojack has had his eye on D-Wayne from the beginning and it seems this was a great business and creative call. This week, D-Wayne released his new single “AMMO” with Wall. “AMMO” promises to do very well on any electronic music charts, and will most likely be played on every DJ’s live sets. To put it simply, it’s a massive release. D-Wayne samples some familiar hype vocals that Afrojack (among other) has used in their own hits. The overall feel is like blending an old Dutch styling with today’s commercial structure. Today’s EDM culture yearns for songs like this. I normally try to stay away from the commercial sound, but the assumingly obvious influences behind “AMMO” make me nostalgic.

The ship, which is named the MSC Divina,  is set to depart on January 9 from Miami, Florida, and will be visiting two private islands.  Oh, there will also be over forty of the world’s top DJs performing.  You name it, they’ve got it.  Skrillex, Diplo, Duck Sauce, Boyz Noise, Zedd, Baauer, and Disclosure are just a few of the insane names.  Oh, and my boyfriend Pharrell Williams will be appearing as a special guest.

You could take me sailing any day.

Tickets are (obviously) sold out, but you can join the waiting list here and keep your fingers crossed.  This is going to be a trip that will be anchored in our hearts forever, and winter cannot come soon enough.

Within the last few years, the United States has seen a sharp rise in EDM festival popularity, in all ages. The Electric Daisy Carnival brand, managed by the live events juggernaut, Insomniac, has expanded far and wide, reaching the greater Las Vegas, New York and Chicago markets. Anyone who follows the industry knows the big headliners that typically support and perform at these massive, weekend-long festivals. But with EDC Las Vegas coming up later this month, we thought it’d be nice to zero in on some of the artists that we’re excited about seeing in this year’s Las Vegas line-up.

Youngin’s
First things first; within the last year, many new artists have emerged from the underground and caught the mass’s attention.

– Audien
The Connecticut native has been tearing up the trance and progressive world for the last couple years, and recently has been finding a niche with electro tracks – all of which have been Beatport chart-toppers. Since his start, artists such as Hardwell, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond, have supported his music.
– Krewella
At this point, everyone’s heard Krewella’s radio mega-hit, “Alive”. The trio has a very diverse style of material ranging from dubstep, moombahton and straight house; seeing them live would be quite an experience.

Something Different
I like to think that some fans like to step out of their comfort zone and explore different kinds of performances.

– A-Trak
Label master of Fool’s Gold Records, one half of Duck Sauce (… Barbra Streisand), and one of the world’s best turntablists and remixers, A-Trak is in a league all his own. He touches on every aspect of the dance music scene whether it be EDM, hip-hop and anything in between. If you’re looking for a truly unique set, his stage is where to be.
– Just Blaze
What??? Just Blaze is going to be at EDC Las Vegas? YES. The hip-hop legend who’s best known for his productions with Jay-Z, Dipset, Eminem and more has been selected for the 128 bpm-heavy festival, and in recent years has experimented with the house music concept – I wouldn’t miss his set, period.

Veterans
As veteran DJ/producers, these guys are no-brainers for the average EDM fan. Not seeing either of these guys would be a crime. No description needed.

The following artists are people I’ve seen before live (and loved) or have wanted to see live for a very, very long time. Each DJ has a different style, and I would expect each to have some of the hotter, more impressive sets. If you don’t know these guys, I definitely suggest doing some research!

Festival house bangers have become a massive trend in today’s EDM world. Even DJs and producers who have made names for themselves for making dance/club-style tracks for years have been hopping on the bandwagon. If it sells: why not, right? Alvaro, the Dutch producer behind Pitbull’s hit “Bon Bon”, has been tearing up the scene since last summer with various solo projects, a dirty collaboration with Quintino, and a release off of Tiesto’s record label, Musical Freedom. Alvaro’s new release with fellow Dutchman, MOTi, is quite a surprise. Both of these artists have had history conjuring rhythmic, electro “Dutch” house music with signature bleeps, bloops and drum racks that make you move your feet.

On June 3rd, the duo released “NaNaNa” off of Bingo Players label, Hysteria. It’s obviously a festival style track with long build-ups that incorporate minimal percussion until… the drop. Now, I don’t want to bash these two house music heavyweights, but if I had to tell you this track sounded original in essence, I’d be lying. Countless songs within the past year or two have had the very same structure and feel. With typical vocal loops and a… sort of… decently unique sounding lead synth, sometimes it’s just best stick to basics. I’m being quite harsh, but just because it sounds like most festival-aimed songs doesn’t mean it doesn’t bump! Throw this on at any party or any appropriate gathering, and it’ll be sure to turn some heads.
