It’s always really cool when rockstars use their fame to help charity. This month, the Alabama Shakes are giving back to their hometown. The Grammy nominated band recently autographed a powder blue Fender Stratocaster to be auctioned off at the 25th Annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge in their hometown of Athens, AL.

Three of the four members of the Alabama Shakes are from Athens, AL: lead singer Brittany Howard, bass player Zac Cockrell and drummer Steve Johnson.

Being busy and all with all the things that go along with rock-stardom, lead singer Brittany had her father and grandmother drop off the signed guitar. Rock on Dad and G-ma!

Proceeds from the guitar’s auction and tickets for the Chili Challenge will go to fund the Hospice of Limestone County. If you want to get your hands on this sure fire collector’s piece of rock n’ roll history, you’ll have to be present at the event. Unfortunately that leaves out most of us who don’t live in Alabama. But hey, a chance to win an Alabama Shakes’ autographed guitar and all the chili you can eat? Sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me!

The Alabama Shakes are nominated for Grammies in three categories this year: Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance, for “Hold On” and Best Recording Package, for “Boys & Girls.”
