Metallica & Red Hot Chili Peppers Highest Grossing Rock Acts Of 2012; Nickelback A Close Third?

They say that rock never dies, and Metallica drove that point home in 2012 with insane ticket sales of $86.1 million for only 30 shows.  This makes Metallica the highest grossing rock act of the year, and the #8 highest grossing overall act.  Red Hot Chili Peppers, who toured more than twice as much as Metallica, rocking a total of 77 shows, managed to pull in $57.8 million in sales.

While Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers may not surprise anyone with their sales, we’re about to blow your mind with the band that follows: NICKELBACK. No, this is not a joke, all haters aside Chad Kroeger and the boys, despite being what some say is “the most hated band of all time,” managed to pull in a staggering $43.6 million in ticket sales.

Now, we know all of this may be difficult to take in, so we’re going to give you all some time to process it, but we will leave you with this: at least Nickelback beat out Justin Bieber.  Canadian vs. Canadian is never pretty, but when it comes to the Biebs, just try and tell us that this news doesn’t put at least a little bit of a smile on your face.

That’s what we thought.
