I’ll tell you right away because I know it was my first thought/prayer – he DOES perform “Ignition (Remix).”  But this wasn’t just an R. Kelly set, so there was a little twist – the song was performed over Phoenix’s hit “1901.”  Strange combination?  It worked surprisingly well, but hey, it involved “Ignition (Remix),” so it was bound for greatness from the start.

Phoenix continued with their amazing performance, having Kelly back one more time to perform “I’m A Flirt.”  Luckiest crowd ever, or luckiest crowd ever?  I will be anxiously awaiting a collaboration album…or at least a studio remix of “1901” and “Ignition (Remix).”  Check out the performance below!

Alfa’s voice is delightful, steady, and cute (but not cutesy), and her heartfelt, autobiographical lyrics are both thought and smile provoking.  She accompanies her own voice on the love song with a ukulele, which perfects the feelgood sound.  All of this along with beautiful falsetto and a catchy chorus makes the special performance a must-watch.

Green Day had to cancel their remaining 2012 and early 2013 tour dates after singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s meltdown at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in September.  The band’s set was cut short, resulting in an angry rant from Armstrong and a smashed guitar, which landed him in rehab.  Thankfully, he has “come around.”

The band’s SXSW performance is set for March 15 at the ACL Live at the Moody Theatre.  They will also be premiering their film Broadway Idiot and screening their documentary ¡Cuatro! at the Paramount Theatre.  Their postponed US tour dates begin on March 28th in Illinois.

Yo Gabba Gabba! may technically be meant for children, but with the bands and celebrities commonly featured on the show, I don’t know many post-pubescent people who haven’t caught at least one episode.

It’s no surprise that the program commonly features indie acts considering one of its creators is Christian Jacobs of the Aquabats.  Belle and Sebastian & Neon Indian are the newest bands announced to appear, joining the ranks of Weezer, Of Montreal, Taking Back Sunday, MGMT, The Killers, and more who have been featured in the past.  Neon Indian will be performing “We All Learn From Our Mistakes,” while Belle and Sebastian will be in an animated segment.

The episode will air this Sunday, February 17th, on Nick Jr.  Parents, tune your kids in!  Get them started early learning about good music and manners!  It certainly couldn’t hurt if you watch it by yourself either; check out how awesome MGMT’s appearance was:

The Grammy Awards are less than two weeks away and the performance list still continues to grow.  Alicia Keys and Maroon 5 will be performing together, which should be interesting (girl on fire’s got the moves like Jagger?  I don’t know).  Frank Ocean is also set to perform.  The three acts join the already impressive bill, featuring Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert, the Black Keys, Fun., the Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jack White, Elton John with Ed Sheeran, and Justin Timberlake.

Maroon 5 is currently nominated for two awards, while Ocean is up for a whopping six, including Best New Artist.  Keys has already taken home fourteen of the gilded gramophones and is giving everyone else a shot this year.

So prepare your blog posts about possible lip-synch scandals and your Facebook complaints about who did or didn’t win because there is going to be a LOT to type about on February 10th.

As we all know, we’re in the prime of awards season, and the UK is certainly stepping up their game this year for the annual Brit Awards! And what better way to dominate the ratings then with a musical performance from “Muse,” who are up for both Best British Group AND Best Live Act? Lead singer Matt Bellamy said:

“We’re going to perform there hopefully with a full orchestra and choir to do a full rendition of ‘Supremacy,’ which is the first song on the album.”

This admission has many people questioning just why Muse feels the need to have such an out-there performance, to which the band’s drummer, Dominic Howard, clarifies:

“The Brits are more like the Golden Globes when compared to the Oscars.  Everyone’s sitting around, eating dinner, drinking, chatting.  You watch the Golden Globes, and you can’t hear what the presenters are saying because everyone’s just chatting in the background.  The Brits are a little bit like that.”

Well, whatever the reason, I have no doubt that the performance will be just as epic as the band’s music.  Best of luck, guys!
