Swedish dreamboat DJ Avicii has just dropped a stunning new single with soulful crooner Aloe Blacc titled, “Wake Me Up,” and it’s the LAST thing you would expect!  The unusually calm, folk-inspired track has been described as “Nashville Goes EDM,” and is pretty much a perfect example of “something you wouldn’t think would work…but does.” Sounding like a mixture of Mumford & Sons, “Icky Thump” era White Stripes, and Emeli Sande, “Wake Me Up” captures a hard-to-accomplish combination of southern twang with classic, rage-your-face-off EDM beats. Overall, a solid Avicci track to get him back into the scene, and Aloe Blacc is pure brilliance. Turn up the speakers and check it out below!

The one and only Ayah Marar, AKA the Queen of Bass, has just released a stunning new video for her soon-to-be hit, “Lethal Dose!”  Promised to make any Friday night playlist better, Miss Marar’s hypnotic voice croons about a lover (or ex-lover?) that she just can’t seem to get out of her mind, no matter how many…well, quite frankly, no matter how many drugs she takes. With the video constantly flashing between shots of the soft, girly version of Ayah pining over her issues in a white bed with hoards of golden jewelry adorning her skin, and a tougher, leather-clad version, who has no problem dancing alone.  But, alas, no matter how much of a ball-buster Ayah appears to be, she is still unable to push her problems aside, instead choosing to tell us of her plans of how she hopes to forget about her love in the future.

The bottom line? “Lethal Dose” is a glorious blend of trance-rave gold and soulful serenading, and a perfect addition to any playlist.  Ayah manages the always difficult task of covering countless different emotions throughout the track, and every line is fit with a shot to match.  You can check out your new favorite song, “Lethal Dose,” below!

The NERVO twins seem to be having an absolute blast in the video, where they are, as always, DJing a crazy party.  They adorably express their anxiety about learning and saying lines on camera, but it all stems from their overflowing excitement to be there:

You hear about sets like this but you never actually get to experience them.

The cast of One Life To Live is equally as excited to have NERVO on set as they were to be there, Josh Kelly calling them “definitely the prettiest DJs i’ve ever seen in my life.”  Maybe they should take up a residency in the new fictional club…?

The DFA electronic duo, Holy Ghost! are gearing up to release their second album Dynamics and “Dumb Disco Ideas” is the first taste of it. The tracks release comes right after the very disco Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories. Coincidence or just a dumb (disco) idea? Holy Ghost! released a video to accompany the 8 minute track, which features synchronized lights and instruments sitting on a NYC rooftop. Warning though, you will dance your ass off to this tune.

Dynamics doesnt have a release date right now, but more details are sure to follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, and jam out to the groovy “Dumb Disco Ideas” in the mean time.

The full ad is about three minutes long and focuses around Tiesto and his bad luck-ridden assistant, Vernon.  Vernon uses the convertible Ultrabook throughout the video to organize the DJ’s rider, video chat, and even help himself into the concert.  He also plays music on the computer, imaginatively living out his dream as a live producer to an almost empty room…until the room fills up and Tiesto is stuck in the crowd…GASP.  Model and actress Poppy Delevingne also appears in the ad, conveniently with an Acer product of her own.

The commercial tells us that “nothing can stop you from realizing your dreams,” as demonstrated by Vernon.  The next time I see Tiesto, I’ll have to use that as an excuse to get on stage and do a little DJing of my own.  Thanks, Acer!

Hope you’re ready for one of the biggest parties of the year, because the Mad Decent Block Party 2013 lineup has just been announced!  The festival was recently under major fire for becoming a ticketed event this year, charging concertgoers $20 for early bird tickets and $30 for regular admission, when it had been free all previous years.  Festival organizers took to their official Facebook page to placate disgruntled patrons:

“The Block Parties cost money now because they are at bigger venues with bigger acts and more production involved. And in an effort to make sure that everyone who wants to go to the Block Parties will gain smooth and guaranteed entry, the best solution was to make the events ticketed while keeping the tickets as inexpensive as possible.”

The festival also announced that they would expand their party to 13 cities, also explaining the rising costs.  After early bird tickets sold out before the lineup was even announced, it is finally here:

deadmau5, a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman, explains early on that the two “didn’t really communicate a whole lot, wherein lies the irony of the song name.”  “Telecommunications” is about “not being able to be in touch with the one you love,” and while the musicians aren’t in a relationship with each other, they showed how things can work out wonderfully in the end, even through only emails and “two phone calls, tops.”  The song isn’t the typical “face-melting” party jam, but it’s still hard-hitting emotionally, and Heap says that she thinks it’s “really special.”  We agree, Imogen.

The music video for the song, which focuses around a businessman unable to get in contact with his loved one, was coordinated by Colin Gordon.  Gordon found twenty different animators from around the globe through an international competition, so you know the artwork is top notch.  The animators, some of whom are interviewed in the video, also follow the path of deadmau5 and Imogen Heap by collaborating but never meeting.  We are also shown some clips of a choreographer working on movements traced for the actual animation.
