Carly Rae Jepsen Cancels Boy Scouts Gig Over Gay Rights Concerns

Carly Rae Jepsen Gay Pride Call Me Maybe

Pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen has officially canceled her scheduled performance for the National Scout Jamboree.  The “Call Me Maybe” songstress was set to open for the rock group “Train,” but as of yesterday, both parties have pulled out of the show due to the recent decision to ban openly gay Boy Scout members.  Jepsen took to her official twitter to explain her decision, stating:

Well put, Miss Jepsen! Train took the more traditional route and released a statement on their official website, saying:

“When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.”

The announcements come just days after a petition was started by Eagle Scout Derek Nance and signed by over 64,000 people on change.org to get the artists to cancel. Nance stated:

“Projected attendance for the 2013 National Scouting Jamboree is over 50,000 Boy Scouts, Venturers, volunteers and staff. Among those 50,000 are countless LGBT young people who are forced to hide who they really are, in fear of being kicked out of the organization they love. This has to change.”

…Is that a “slow clap” I hear in the distance? Why yes, yes it is.
