A recent interview with Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson has triggered an investigation and manhunt around a teacher who sexually abused her during her childhood. While speaking with an Australian newspaper, Manson, who was a 15-year-old virgin at the time of the abuse, admitted:
“My first so-called relationship was with my music teacher at 15. I would have sex with him in the back of his van after class. When I found out he was having sex with every one of my mates, it stopped.”
Although Manson has spoken of the abuse before, the interview was the first time she had mentioned other young girls being taken advantage of in addition to herself. She went on to describe losing her virginity to him as “ghastly,” but that he was “besotted” by him. Growing up, Manson attended The City of Edinburgh Music School, which has since been integrated with Broughton High School and triggered a full-fledged investigation. In response to the comments, a school spokesperson has said:
“We take any allegations of this nature very seriously and we are currently looking to establish more information about this case.”
