Fuzz-soaked psychedelic one-man-band Druggy Pizza is back with his second album, “Key Lighting,” and it pretty much sounds like this:

…rad.

The four-track EP kicks off with “Sand Witches,” a reverb-ridden surf jam sprinkled with spacey echos that give the tune an almost intergalactic feel.  A mixture of  Best Coast and Sultan Bathery, the completely instrumental “Sand Witches” is the perfect groovy start to a stellar sophomore EP. Next up is the title track, “Key Lighting,” which explores the slower, more sedated side of Druggy Pizza. The track feels a bit like trudging through molasses – sluggish, sticky, and the slightest bit sweet. Multilayered instrumentals serve to both confuse and enthrall listeners before fading into “You Trip Me Up,” by Jesus & Mary Chain.  While it’s certainly an unusual approach to take to have another band featured on your album, it works out for DP, as Jesus & Mary Chain brings some much-needed rhythm and lyrics to the EP, the steady vocals of Jim Reid tying it all together. Finally, Druggy Pizza wraps up with “Pizza Sloths,” a twangy-meets-middle eastern sounding track that will send shivers up your spine. Clocking in at only 2:05, “Pizza Sloths” brings the album to a fitting close with repeated lyrics and unrelenting guitar chords. Avril Lavigne is back you guys. Now, before I begin telling you about this album, let’s get this out of the way…when it comes to Avril Lavigne:

I’m really going to try and put my hatred aside, but I make no promises. So, without further ado..here goes:

1. Rock N Roll: Okay, we’re off to a corny, annoying, but…still kind of catchy start. The only catch is to not listen to the words, because then it starts to go into, “can you not” territory.
   
2. Here’s To Never Growing Up: So apparently we’ve started the decent into hell. A song that should really only be played along with Green Day’s “Time Of Your Life” at a High School graduation, Avril shows that she really hasn’t changed since her “Sk8r Boi” days, and f*ck you if you don’t like it.
3. 17: Cheese and rice, Avril. COME. ON. Now you’re not even trying.
   
4. Bitchin’ Summer: Alright, you got me here. Avril sounds decent, and there’s cute enough lyrics. Think, “Party In The USA” – you really don’t want to sing along, but you can’t help yourself (except for the rap in the middle, that’s got to go.)
   
5. Let Me Go (Feat. Chad Kroeger): I couldn’t really hear this one over my laughter. Sorry guys.
   
6. Give You What You Like: I will give credit where credit is due, and this song is actually really good. Avril shows off her vocals, and takes a step in a very mature direction with no pop-punk hook and stripped-down instrumentals. As much as this pains me to say…well done, Avril.
   
7. Bad Girl: Yikes. I’m not entirely sure what’s happening with the distortion and vocal echo, but it’s not working. Pair this wit Marilyn Manson yelling in the background (generally a fan of that,) every now and then…and it’s just not good.
   

   I imagine the screaming guy looks a little something like this.

8. Hello Kitty: This is actually one of the most hilariously racist songs I’ve ever heard. Worth a listen, if only for the giggles and the “oh my God I can’t believe she put that on an album!”
   

   Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

9. You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet: perhaps one of the most pop songs on the entire album, Avril channels her inner Selena Gomez with sickeningly sweet lyrics about puppy love. It’s decent, if you’re into that sort of thing, I guess.
   

   Unfortunately, it’s not THIS kind of puppy love </3

10. Sippin’ On Sunshine: I was actually really confused listening to this at first, because it sounds eerily similar to Katy Perry’s “Roar.” Not a bad song at all, but talking about the beach with your sweetheart doesn’t exactly fit in with a supposed-to-be-deep-and-angsty November release.
    

    The roar comes off more like this though.

11. Hello Heartache: Well, we’re certainly not at the beach anymore! “Hello Heartache” is a story of moving on after your young heart is broken into a million little pieces. “I was champagne, you were Jameson,” Avril croons. Le sob.
    
12. Falling Fast: another winner, Avril once again embraces her soft side with a controlled ballad about falling hard for someone while still being cautious about getting hurt again.  An unusually relateable song from a wannabe rebel who usually only aims to please the dangerous, and it looks damn good on her!
    
13. Hush Hush: Wooooow! Another soft one, Avril? Don’t tell me you’re losing your edge! Just kidding, this song is actually really cute, even if you will end up like this after…
    

    Literally me.

Overall, this album is not as bad as I thought it would be…I guess. I would advise Avril to go in a softer direction, but she won’t ever listen to me because she’s so ~badass~ so I will prepare myself to feel like this for the rest of her releases:

ATTENTION! MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE! Everyone’s favorite bad boy, Eminem, has released his comeback album, “The Marshall Mathers LP2,” and it certainly lives up to expectations. Now, for any of you that have outstanding issues with Mr. Mathers, just take a look at this:

Okay. Now that we have THAT out of the way…

Eminem has been through a lot in the past couple of years: custody battles, the death of his best friend, addiction, and more. MMLP2 takes you on a journey through Mather’s emotions during these turbulent years, yet somehow manages to still be danceable. Some of the most personal tracks are his hit single, “Rap God,” and the tinkling piano ballad of “Legacy.” If you’re one of those people who’s not big on “emotions,” be sure to check out “Rhyme Or Reason,” which is a glorious mixture of Em’s “Ass Like That,” and D-12’s “Purple Pills.” While both silly and sentimental look good on Eminem, he truly shines on the tracks where he get’s angry.

I guess you could say that – unlike The Incredible Hulk – you WILL like Eminem when he’s angry.

Much to everyone’s delight, Em’s inner-313 comes out in tracks like “So Much Better,” where he spits viciously, “My life would be so much better / if you just dropped dead / I was layin’ in bed last night thinkin’ / and this thought just popped in my head.” If pissy is your thing, be sure to also give a listen to “Evil Twin,” where Mathers snarls, “Ever since the day I came out I was like ‘fuck merits’ / I’d rather be loud, and I like swearin’!”

We like you loud and swearin’ too, Em!

Yup, I just went there.

The “Good Girl Gone Bad” is finding herself under fire after getting into an altercation with an overzealous fan at a Birmingham, UK concert recently, where she ended up smacking the RiRi lover with her microphone.  The action was in response to the fan apparently refusing to let Rihanna’s arm go after she stepped into the audience to shake hands during her performance of “We Found Love.”  After the concert, the songstress took to her official twitter page to express her outrage:

“Purpose! That b— won’t let me go!”

Welp, that’s certainly ONE way to get your point across.  Although, next time, probably just let security handle it, okay? Great. Now, go sit in the corner, you’re officially in time out for the next hour until you learn to use your words, young lady!
