Kitty Addresses On-Stage Sexual Assault of Danny Brown

Rapper Kitty, previously known as Kitty Pryde, has weighed in on the incident that occurred this past Friday night when a female fan performed oral sex on Kitty’s tourmate, Danny Brown, during his set without his consent.

While Kitty is often cheeky and easy-going in both her songs and personality, she took the time to write a lengthy, intelligent article for Vice addressing the incident, which she and her tourmates are uncomfortably referring to as “The Thing.”  A good portion of the article is rightfully spent on double standards and society’s judgement of both her for “slut-shaming” and Brown for, well, whatever reaction he could have possibly had.

What is Danny supposed to do? The girl was at mouth-to-dick level already and to push her away, he would’ve had to either pushed her face or kicked her, and even the most gentle of either motion would immediately be labeled “abuse” by anyone watching…So what was Danny supposed to do, other than back away, which he did? And if he had figured out a way to gently push the girl off him immediately without looking like he was smacking her in the face, he’s faced with attacks on his masculinity by every douchebro in the building.

She states how she has “no qualms with sluts,” but having been in a very similar situation before, she sees the main issue as sexual assault rather than what others view as misogyny:

It’s because everyone wants the option of blaming it on Danny, because people can’t accept the fact that a white girl raped a black dude in front of a bunch of people.

Kitty, as you can see, is extremely blunt in her writing, but articulates her thoughts profoundly and has come up with something definitely worth a read.  You can view the entire article here.
