Jay-Z Getting Jazzy On “Great Gatsby” Soundtrack

Jay-Z 99 Problems Great Gatsby Baz Luhrmann

Because Jay-Z REALLY needs to expand his already-massive empire even more, the rap mogul has announced that he will be the executive producer of legendary (and my personal favorite) director, Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby.”   Jay-Z was introduced to Luhrmann through “Gatsby” star Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby.  Jay recently explained in an official statement:

“As soon as I spoke with Baz and Leonardo, I knew this was the right project. The Great Gatsby is that classic American story of one’s introduction to extravagance, decadence and illusion. It’s ripe for experimentation and ready to be interpreted with a modern twist. The imagination Baz brought to Moulin Rouge made it a masterpiece, and Romeo + Juliet’s score wasn’t just in the background; the music became a character. This film’s vision and direction has all the makings of an epic experience.”

The film, which also stars Carey Mulligan (as Daisy Buchanan,) and Tobey Maguire (as narrator Nick Carraway,) explores the golden age of the roaring twenties and is adapted from the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald book, is set to open The Cannes Film Festival on May 10th of this year.
