We’re feeling particularly spacey on this dreadful Monday, so what better way to come down from the weekend than with the trippy, intergalactic sounds of Seven’s new EP, “Lost In The Deep Sounds Of Space?!” The French quartet’s album comes a little under a year after their first stellar EP, “Beware!,” which was released back in July 2013. “Lost In The Deep Sounds Of Space” fades in with “Pull The Trigger Son…Or You’ll Be Killed,” a wavy, riff-heavy track reminiscent of indie kings Palma Violets and Jaguar Ma. ” Next up is “Mr. Couch Potato,” a fuzz-soaked surf-rock influenced track sounds like a B-Side of fellow European rockers Sultan Bathery, and has an undeniably infectious beat that will have you jumping in no time. Bringing the EP to a close is “Psycolours,” a prismatic track ripe with rich layers, strong guitars, and pleading lyrics of, “baby, give me one more shot!” The desperate begging reads our minds: three tracks just isn’t enough! Hopefully we see more of Seven soon, we NEED more of this in our lives!

John Legend has been around for almost 10 years now and he has sure cemented himself into the music industry. With his soulful vocals and his great songwriting he looks to put it all together for his fourth studio album “Love In The Future” set to be released on September 3rd. Legend has won many Grammy’s and has had multiple Platinum selling albums and he looks to continue that success. His last album was so far his least successful album and now he looks to rebound from that with his new album “Love In The Future”.

His first single “Who Do We Think We Are” featuring Rick Ross is a slow jam packed R&B song. Legend’s vocals excel very well here but all together the song is somewhat lackluster. It is a solid effort but not one that should have been a first single. His second single “Made To Love” is a guitar and drum driven track that works well here. It’s is a pretty good song that although sounds different from Legend’s normal work, it works very well for him.

His third single “All Of Me” is a great song stripped down to only a piano and Legend’s great voice. Lyrically and vocally this is top notch and it’s no surprise coming from John Legend himself. This is so far the top track off the album and he sounds great here.

Overall “Love In The Future” looks to be a good album coming from the reliant John Legend. You can always count on Legend to release a straight up R&B record and that’s exactly what he is doing here. It should be a good to great release something that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

When Odd Future crashed into the hip-hop scene in 2010, a then 16-year-old Earl Sweatshirt took the internet by storm with his advanced and potent lyrical skill. And then, out of nowhere, Earl disappears at the height of Odd Future’s popularity.

We all know the story by now. His mother sent him to a Samoan boarding school, unhappy with his delinquent behavior and declining grades. A year later, he returned seeming like a new man, and Doris is what he has to show for it.

Doris is an incredible yet easy album to listen to. It’s completely smooth from start to finish.  Earl may be best known for his precocious way around a rhyme, but Doris features instrumental interludes and expanded mid-song diversions. “Chum”, Earl’s single that’s been out for a while now, isn’t exactly the album centerpiece, but it’s the song you’ll go back and listen to over and over again purely based on the simplicity of Earl’s rhymes his personal reflections over a haunting repeated piano melody.

Doris is sprawling, weird, extremely original, yet also light and beautiful when you catch the right moments. It’s a comforting return to minimalism and musicality in hip-hop.

Big Sean is prepping to release his new album “Hall Of Fame” on August 27th. “Hall Of Fame” is a follow up to his highly successful album “Finally Famous” which featured hits such as “Dance (A$$)” with Nicki Minaj and “My Last” with Chris Brown. Big Sean looks to continue his success with his new album with huge features all over the place such as Lil Wayne, Nas, Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj and Miguel.

So far the first few singles haven’t garnered the same success as his last album and have only been moderate hits. The first three singles “Guap”, “Switch Up”, and “Beware” to me doesn’t seem like logical choices for the first singles mainly because there was nothing really special about these tracks. The fourth single “Fire” is so far the best track released off the album. Big Sean takes a more serious approach on this single rapping about his life and making it through the “Fire”. It’s not your typical club track and that’s what makes it that much better. Miley Cyrus is also in the music video which doesn’t hurt it at all.

Overall Big Sean had big success on his last album so he has a lot to live up to on this album. He doesn’t seem too worried though because he is looking to put out his own music and not following what anyone else wants which is always a good thing for an artist. In an interview he said

“Not going by the label standards. I’m not going by the club standards. This is just what the fuck I want to do. Some people are going to like it. Some people are going to hate it; regardless, I’m just doing me.”

This album looks to be a solid release with many anticipated songs featuring Nicki Minaj, Miguel, Kid Cudi and many more. Here is hoping the rest of the album is better than the first three singles and if it sounds anything like his past hits or “Fire” then this album could do very well for Big Sean.

Glen Campbell was releasing hit singles in the past, 60’s and 70’s. They were distinctive, sure, but they also had a way of masking the power of the songs that Campbell so artfully performed stand out beyond all the rest.

“See You There,” Glen Campbell upcoming album being released on August 13 brings down the arrangements and casts eight of Campbell’s hits in a more intimate light. The album, comes out on Speakeasy this upcoming weekend, the album includes four songs Campbell cut during sessions for his 2011 album, called “Ghost on the Canvas,” which is when he recorded new vocal takes on his classic songs. Surfdog Records founder Dave Kaplan and longtime collaborator Dave Darling enlisted musicians to complement them with subtle, rootsy arrangements that lay bare an elegiac quality on songs like “Gentle on My Mind” or “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Check out the album because this maybe Glen Campbell last release due to Alzheimer’s. He’s a legend and an artist who has done some many great things with his music, it would be sad not to be heard by this gifted musician.

Tech N9ne’s thirteenth album “Something Else” has finally been released, and those who consider 13 to be an unlucky number might want to rethink their superstitions after listening to this record. The standard edition boasts 21 tracks, busting through with the first track “Straight Out the Gate”, featuring the vocals by Serj Tankian of System of a Down. Other appearences on the album include Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B, Cee Lo Green and more. Tech N9ne incorporates musical elements from all genres (I’m LOVING every orchestral bit.)

The album is spilt into three sections; Fire, Water, and Earth. The Fire tracks flawlessly marries the genres of rock and hip-hop and pairs them with vivid, dark, and sometimes terrorizing lyrical imagery. “Fragile” is sure to be a popular track, with Kendall Morgan offering soulful vocals and Kendrick Lamar spitting out some real pensive poetry. The Water section is primarily in place to break up the heaviness of the album, club bangers with lyrics that won’t bring up every emotion inside you, unlike the rest of the album. The last section, Earth, is definitely a handful of more personal tracks with the heartfelt “That’s My Kid” and the autobiographical “Meant to Happen”.

Over a complicated sounding production, Tech N9ne comes off as sharp and clean, giving the listener a number of layers to peel back as they experience Something Else. It really is something else.

After a brief hiatus, The Civil Wars are set to release their sophomore self-titled album on August 6th, 2013.  The Civil Wars are currently no more (though hopefully not for long), and the album was actually put together in late 2012, just as the duo initiated the “hiatus” citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition” as the reason.

So it’s kind of understandable that their public feud carried over a bit onto the tracks on this album. There’s more of a darker, angry edge that wasn’t on their debut album, Barton Hollow, and this can be heard in the number of beautiful breakup tunes like the album’s first single “The One That Got Away,” “Eavesdrop,” and “Dust To Dust”. Each song contains the same silvery harmonies and melodies, but with a haunting overtone that wraps the album together. Extremely impressive is their heart-wrenching take on the Smashing Pumpkin’s “Disarm”, bringing a whole new level of emotions and feels to the 1994 rock song. 

Hopefully The Civil Wars can set aside their differences and keep making music together. The album is proof that even during some problematic times, they can put together a pretty amazing piece of work.

Luke Bryan looks to continue his success with his new album “Crash My Party” set to be released on August 13th. His last album “Tailgates and Tanlines” was one of the biggest albums of 2012 going double platinum along with having multiple platinum selling singles. Luke Bryan looks to use that success to add to his already big list of huge selling albums and singles with his new album.

His first single off his new album “Crash My Party” has already gone gold and is one of his biggest songs yet. It is a midtempo’d ballad sounding track and an ode to a girl being able to “Crash my party anytime” and just singing about a girl he just met that he already is falling for very much. Being the recipient of the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, Luke Bryan has a lot to live up to and so far with his first single he’s going along the right path. Look for his new album “Crash My Party” set to be released on August 13th.

The Lonely Island has been one of the most successful if not the most successful comedy music group. The three guys first formed the group on Saturday Night Live in 2007 and have had huge success with multiple of their singles like “I Just Had Sex” and “I’m On A Boat” reaching Platnium status. It is interesting to see because their music is so unique in a weird but in a funny way. These guys pull out all the stops with great sounding music and great hooks with huge guest features even though all of their songs and lyrics are joking around. “The Wack Album” was released on June 11th and has features such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Adam Levine, Robyn and Solange.

The album’s biggest single and best on the album is “YOLO” featuring Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar. It’s so catchy with a solid beat and a great hook. Just by listening to it sounds like it would be on the radio with Adam Levine’s vocals on the hook but obviously it’s all a big joke. The song is basically about being extremely careful because “you only live once”. These guys pretty much make fun of the whole concept of Yolo using lines like “And where titanium suits in case pianos fall on ya. And never go in saunas cause they’re crawlin’ with piranhas”

Overall this is a very funny good album and I really enjoy it mainly because not only is it catchy and sounds good but the lyrics are also hilarious. One of the top tracks “Go Kindergarten” has to be one of the funniest music videos I have ever seen. You should check it out because if these guys can’t make you laugh then I don’t know what can plus they are good and catchy songs.
