Kelly Clarkson Tries to “Break Away” from Clive Davis Memoir Claims

Clive Davis, one of the most successful record producers and music executives in the world, just released an autobiography cleverly entitled The Soundtrack of My Life, in which he reveals intimate details about his career, his sexuality, and his experiences with music’s top stars, including our original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson.  Unfortunately, Clarkson wasn’t very impressed with the book; she is downright livid with it.

I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans.

Clarkson goes on to explain her side of the stories Davis wrote involving his interactions with the singer.  She states that Davis’ claims of her “hysterical sobbing” when he demanded “Since U Been Gone” be on her album are completely false and that she “resents him dampening that song in any way,” when all she wanted was a bigger sound for the track (which she achieved).

She wrote that the only time she cried in his office was after playing him her song “Because Of You,” when he called her a “shitty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.”  The song became her sixth single to reach the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, so hopefully Clarkson bases her merit on her own accomplishments rather than on these sorts of comments.

She goes on to refute and explain a few more excerpts and claims from Davis’ memoir in the full letter, which you can read here.  So, who do you believe?  Do you think that Clarkson handled the situation well?  Let us know!
